When you are ready to pioneer and begin sharing your message, consider blogging weekly. This is an authentic way to share a tip or two and lead people to how you serve without hype. When you begin to blog, pick out (you can change this as you go along if you want) four to five categories and then when you are done writing the blog, put in about 10 tags.
If you’re new to blogging, categories are three to five high-level topics that when people land on your website they can see quickly where your specialty lies. It helps your reader identify what subjects you speak, coach, and write around. For example, here’s Michael Hyatt who does an outstanding job with his leadership, message and website.
Leadership, Productivity, Self-development, Entrepreneurship, Platform building.
All his books, podcasts, conferences, coaching, speaking all revolve around these 5 categories.
Next, it’s normal when you begin to share your message and blog to feel like you’re all over the place in your writing. Don’t QUIT! Keep writing weekly and what you will find by the end of 25, 50, 75 and 100 posts is that you have a pretty good idea of what niches you’re hitting. Remember, do your best and tweak it as you go along.
Another example. My five categories:
Self-sabotage, Spiritual warfare, Identity in Christ, Pioneering Leadership, Message Multiplication
Here’s how I organized this particular blog: It went into the category of Message Multiplication
Tags: People don’t generally search for a person or product, they research the PAIN they are in. So for example, I know people aren’t going to say to themselves…Hey, today I need a life coach who specializes in identity in Christ and helping me share my message once I am an overcomer! LOL! It would be really nice if that happened:)
So, I put Tags and Categories in the title of my blog because that’s what people are going to google. What are Tags? So, this is when you want to make sure you’re thinking strategically about your title and tagging it so people can find it.
You really don’t want to put any more than 15 tags on a blog, including your categories in that number. If you do, it will actually have the opposite effect with WordPress and won’t show up in the reader.
Here is an example of my tags for this particular blog.
What are tags? What are categories? Tags vs. categories, what is the difference between categories and tags, How to start blogging and people find you.
Remember, it takes time to develop your brand and that’s why you must be consistent writing weekly even if you feel it’s not that great. Now, tell me what you’re going to start blogging about below by meeting me in the comments and I will be praying for you to get momentum!
