Feeling Held Back? Look For Shame.

by BeckyHarmon on August 13, 2012

One of the hugest sabotages to building a bold identity and business that will transform other people’s lives is shame. Shame comes in various forms for all of us but it is basically the “feeling” that there is something really off with us. We haven’t just missed the bulls-eye zone, we are aiming at the completely wrong target.

Shame is not a device of the enemy to cloud your clarity, it’s to completely remove you from delivering your unique message to the world. It can take on various forms in your business from a lack of confidence or to completely sabotaging your business growth.

In Christians, shame results when we ignore the boundaries the Holy Spirit has given us, if our intimacy with God is broken, when other people attempt to control us with manipulation or when as parents or leaders, those in relationship with us or under our guidance make decisions that disappoint us. It is then that our identity in Christ and our position in HIM tested and tried and we see really where our identity lies.

Subsequently, there are only two ways to go when shame manifests. Into the fire where the idolatry will be purged and your identity and authority grows in Christ so you can be sent with power or into the fire where you will stay stuck in the past and an old wineskin with minimal influence.

In your business, shame and poverty mentalities will create comparisons that there will always be someone who does it better than you so really…why try. It is the constant evaluating that paralyzes you from building a successful marketing wheel that helps you fill your pipe line.

Shame will also cause you to hold back from building a platform on social media or from teaming with others in mentoring groups to help you build momentum. It creates a barrier around you so that you resist the work and investing the time into developing powerful services that will make your business more profitable.

In a positive way, shame can be used to motivate us to do the work necessary to build new identities. To harness our pain so that our misery can be turned into our message. If we utilize our pain constructively, we will grow in authority and be sent into greater levels of influence and service. We will literally create a space in the world to mesh our passion with profits AND transform lives for the kingdom of God.

I find what I read above very interesting.Although the past few years has been very difficult because of some pretty aweful things thats happened I have also seen God doing some amazing things.I too have dealt with some major feelings of shame.I allowed manipulation and control  from a pastor that nearly cost me everything.Through God's grace he gave me the strength to break free and now still going through the healing process.I'am at the very minute starting up a whole new business and I do pray for the complete boldness that I do need.Often times the enemy does try to remind me  but I continuely remind myself who God is.He is all I need and with him I'am more than a conquer.

      K,
Thank you for sharing that…BOLDLY. I know you are thankful like I am that we have a high priest who understands our sufferings. What’s even more special for you I venture to say, is that you are going to have a very powerful message. I can’t wait to hear about your business and how you want to serve people with it. Do you think you might be able to make the call next week? I would love to pray with you in person! Have a great week! Bec:)
